About the project

Political education about the Archive of Refuge

The Archive of Refuge is complemented by a suite of political education tools composed of method modules and accessible to the general public. The non-profit media education provider mediale pfade – Verein für Medienbildung e.V., working together with the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), has designed a wide range of formats and materials for political education, aimed primarily at young people, to facilitate active exploration of archive content either in workshops or as part of an independent learning process.

Rassismuskritik

Education suite

The focal themes of the education suite are oral history as a counter-narrative to conventional history writing, migration and flight as a social continuity, critique of racism and anti-discriminatory learning. It encourages people to use video footage in the Archive of Refuge in many ways, such as by creating their own storytelling formats, soundscapes or virtual reality, and to take independent ownership of the Archive as a site of learning.
This suite of methods and tools is designed for education settings of all kinds, both inside and outside schools, in libraries and at the Goethe Institutes as partners of the Archive of Refuge.

Partnership

The digital education suite created to accompany the Archive of Refuge is the fruit of a partnership between mediale pfade and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt with funding from the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (bpb).

In addition, we partner with the Goethe-Institutes, especially in Eastern Europe, aiming to introduce the Archive of Refuge here as well and bring the stories, some of which also revolve around the EU’s external borders, back to where they took place.

We are also closely partnering with the Berlin libraries in order to make our educational suite available and known among Berlin citizens.

We look forward to further inquiries and cooperation opportunities to make the Archive of Refuge and our educational material known and applied – please contact us for any exchange and ideas!
